The sun certainly hasn't set on Griffin Park, home of Brentford FC, the club where I am chaplain. How I came to be doing that is a story in itself, maybe to tell one time. Suffice it to say, my brief is to give a listening ear to players and staff, and to commend the Christian faith, which I certainly do, in conversation and, as opportunity arises, in matchday programmes.
It hardly feels any time ago since we were celebrating on the pitch with the players their promotion to League One as champions, but it was great to be back this week, when I took one of my boys to our first 'proper' friendly, Roy Keane's Ipswich. We saw the great man sitting a few seats away (I warned my son - look, don't touch!).
We left before full time (8 year olds have bedtimes, I had things to do), and Ipswich won, but we saw some excellent play by Brentford which bodes very well for the new season. Bring it on!
